Sawchuk: Since 1981 building excellence

UBCO University Centre, Kelowna BC

Completed in 2009, this 3-storey, 78,500 square foot University Centre building is the heart of the UBC Okanagan campus.

The lower level of the building includes a new pub, theatre, a bookstore, sushi-bar, student union offices and a state-of-the-art food court. The second level includes a large ballroom, meeting rooms and more offices. The third level includes more offices and collegia rooms with fireplaces. Central corridors are open to below with natural light from skylights.

The building exterior is brick and glazed aluminum curtain wall. A soaring glass atrium extends above the roof line along the south and east facades.

University Centre utilizes a cutting edge geo-exchange system using groundwater to heat and cool the building. In addition the glass atrium generates heat which contributes to a very energy efficient building.
