Sawchuk: Since 1981 building excellence

UBCO Student Residences Phase 3, Kelowna BC

Completed in 2009, this project consisted of four 11,000 square foot three-storey townhouse residences and one 68,000 square foot four-storey dorm building. The project provides housing for 356 students.

The buildings were constructed on a fast-track schedule. All five buildings were all completed ahead of schedule and ready for the students to move in for the beginning of the school year.

The buildings are wood-frame and the exterior finishes are a combination of brick, hardi-panel and acrylic stucco. Townhouses include quad units which feature a common kitchen and living spaces shared by four one bedroom units. The dorm building includes 194 beds and one student lounge and kitchen for each of the four floors. The dorm building also incorporates the 2500 square-foot student housing offices.

In keeping with UBCOs push for sustainable construction, the dorm building includes a roof-mounted solar panel array that supplements the building water heating system.
